NEW: Sunset Hills soldier killed in Iraq
First Lt. Daniel Riordan, 24, died June 23 from injuries suffered during a roadside bomb attack northwest of Baghdad. Riordan is survived by his mother, Jeanine Rainey, and stepfather, Bob Rainey, of Sunset Hills, father, Rick Riordan, stepmother, Michelle Riordan, sister, Suzanne, and twin brother, Nick.Riordan will be buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery following the funeral service. Visitation is planned at Kutis Funeral Home South County, 5255 Lemay Ferry Road, but a time has yet to be determined. Born in Forth Worth, Texas, Riordan moved to St. Louis with his family when he was 5 years old and attended Queen of All Saints Elementary School in Oakville, where he was active in Scouting. A graduate of St. John Vianney High School in 2001, he received his bachelor’s degree from Southeast Missouri State University. After his ROTC training, Riordan was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army. After training at Fort Benning, Ga., and Fort Hood, Texas, he was deployed to Iraq in October 2006. Two memorial funds have been established to honor Riordan; the Lt. Daniel P. Riordan Scholarship Fund, at St. John Vianney High School, 1311 S.
