More than 80,000 expected at Festival of Nations

More than 80,000 people this weekend will experience the worldwide and homegrown traditions of Native Americans, African Americans and other kinds of arts and crafts at the ninth annual Festival of Nations at Tower Grove Park.

The festival, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 23 and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 24, will feature non-stop music and dance and dozens of food and gift booths. It's sponsored by the International Institute of St. Louis.

More than 30 food booths feature Bosnian baklava, Brazil's national dish feijoada, Ethiopian injera with doro wt, Filipino kebabs, and other ethnic offerings.!For shoppers, there are more than 25 gift booths selling Mexican glassware, Israeli jewelry, Indian saris and other hand-made items.

At the World Sports Meadow, people can show off their strength in the caber toss.

At the Global Corner, visitors can learn about their cultural ancestry and their new immigrant neighbors. There are informational booths from local community agencies and cultural organizations

A free shuttle service will be available throughout the park during most of the opening hours. Parking is available in Tower Grove Park and on surrounding streets.
